Shame this guy isnt going to be finished by the dead line, not that it was actually planned, some times just need to make something to make myself busy when other work is stressing me out, either way, after the deadline il carry on with this guy :)

All assets apart from grasses/rocks/mud placed now, jus need to bring everything up to the same level!

EN_Voodoo Update

Fleshed it out with only some assets needing a fair amount of work!

Update

Heres a quick update of the voodoo, just need to do her headdress and grime her up, shes way too prety atm for a freak show :P

woooo

Oh yes groovie shorts. update. might be a tad to dark but it can be easly changed. ill see what it looks like next to the enviroment first.

I have nothing to say about this. I'm too ashamed. guess men i draw are erm not very manly. Sniffff

i keep finding more and more photos. looking at the background on all of them i sooooo have to do a tent background, simple i know but awesome.

Boo Hoo

Hmmz showgirl environment. not happy with it at all at the moment.
only basic still. Ive been putting off working on it until i work out what it is i really want from the environment, composition and such.

wooo so here it is. looking better ay?

However looking through are big book (the circus, 1950 to 1980), it has been decided she needs a cape. the all seem to have them.

Loving the way the hair turn out. may have been putting it off because i find modeling hair quite hard. so i went for a short bob hair do. nice and simple. woop woop :P

showgirl is now on hold for a little while why i get the rest of my stuff up to the same level and style. Need to start getting things sitting together.

Sunday 21 March 2010

(Currently at the library with the non existant 3ds max software, so screen grabs will have to wait)

Prety much in the same position as Bex, time slipped away, should definatly went more indepth with our time line, we only had it on a weekly basis! But recently switched to a day basis and its working out a hell of alot better!!!

Voodoo woman is prety much finished now, just the minor details to be added (accessories and such)

Ringmaster environtment is prety much there too, again small piddly bits need to b added, need to paint up the main poster design too.

Its been very difficult to get the old head down with all these interesting happenings, interviews, people coming in, stolen harddrives, HDD errors, my birthday :P not to mention interview and open days at uni which suck ass!!!

It will be good to have the main scope of a project taken off our hands when it comes to working in industry, having someone nagging would also help, me an bex have been a little too kind to each other!

Progress.

Ok Ive decide I'm quite behind.
.
Thankfully its still doable. just have to work my ass of to get my environments completed.
On the character side of things I'm well on schedule it just I'm supposed to have 1 environment done by now to. gahhhh. Think the solution is to just simplify one of the ideas down a little. its a bummer i knowww. :(
.
I'm really enjoying this project however i am finding it difficult. i feel that my work is not of the quality people are expecting me to produce. eeek. at the mo I'm just trying to get everything up to the same standard and style.
.
I think choosing to do are project to a style and in a time period rather than realism is defiantly adding more and more days on to each element of the project. huff puff.
.
Ahh well.
(i shall remain positive)

*crys*

my poor poor harddrive.

poor poor harddrive. so saddd. :(
R.I.P

wereever u went, u took with u 2 days work and now im behind.

I HOPE YOUR HAPPYYY NOW.

Strongman.woo

shame on me Ive 4got to update my progress 4 the past 2 weeks. bummer.
.
well so here is the start of the strongman. the wireframe is very similar to the show girls mainly because Ive never made a a man model before. i know i know, could have picked a better time to start. however I'm very chuffed. i think its turned out really well WOOOOOOOOO. might change my mind in a few days, so i better have the diffuse finished before then.
.
also i cheated on the texturing front a little by using photos as a base to paint over. painting the show girls skin from scratch took far to long. So i admitted defeat, after all i have a deadline to stick to.
.
Also stupid painter saved over my dam original photoshop file of the skin instead of over the .bak file. the bastard thing. i will have my revenge. sooner rather than later. alterations will now take twice as long grrrrrrrr.

Wednesday 24 February 2010

So diffuse is comeing along nicely. aiming to have her finnished in about 4 or 5 more days. geting to pissi about things. also wtf why on earth are speculars such little shits when it comes to working in renders. o so nicely works in unreal though woo. :P
bahhh humbug.

UPDATE

Jan 28th -> Feb 24th

Ive continued the alternate week approach and have found it very useful for keeping a fresh eye on my work and also found it made me alot more aware of timing issues by keeping it on a weekly basis.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Ive paused my child juggler a few weeks back as he is a supplimentry character, and so I'm spending my time on the main characters of Voodoo and Ringmaster.

Heres some development shots

I realised that the childs proportions from my initial ortho were very distorted and so referenced the Loomis proportions and tweaked a render

and here is the final comparison between the old and new

VOODOO

My initial concept of a black voodoo man who is more of an actor has shifted to a more realistic person based on a Mursi tribe woman who has been "aquired" by the circus, and fits more of a freak show role within the circus.

I designed a few varients of head and clothing for miss Voodoo

(INSERT VOODOO CONSTRUCTION)

GENERAL ASSETS

Ive made a series of assets for the team to help the flow of character work, all of which are higher poly than any previous version I have made. I've found it really good to do, being able to put that extra detail into these aspects really brings the characters together and shows a level of polish.

Mr Foot

Took me a day and stands at 434 Tris, Martin from rebellion mentioned that he really liked the feet i made which was great :P and critiqued that these elements help a character alot, but also mentioned that even though i made a higher poly ear that ultimately, even on a high spec char, that these are normal mapped and so although i will keep the ear I have toned it down.

Ear

(INSERT EAR)

Hand

Slightly High poly but we needed a less triangulated and more detailed hand

(INSERT SCREEN GRABS HERE)

Flea

It was more a bit of fun for a re-use of some assets, going to shrink down our caravan and use the flea as its horse :P

68 tris and a 64 bit texture :)

ENVIRO DEVELOPMENT

I've sketched out some environment concepts for our scenes for both our of character sets, ideas for which are a colaboration of ideas, although only roughed out it provides a good basis, so that we can produce a more specific concept once we've done the initial flesh out

The concept behind the ringmaster enviro is the elaborate introduction, the giant posters that sell the characters and the main tent backdrop. The environment might also be the group shot environment.

The Voodoo womans enviro is based around the idea of Freak show, shes placed on a predastel with strong lighting from above to emphasise the shadow based around her eyes and cheek to make her look more inhuman and menacing.

The venus environment is meant to show the behind the scenes view of her character, and is more homely.

Development

Jan 18th -> 28th 2010

Ive opted for the alternate weeks approach for the project, to help keep a fresh eye on the work I do.

First week;
was based around the child juggler, which posed all sorts of issues, namely anatomy based, children are such weird builds!!

Week 2
;has been a bit of a flop, I started working on assets but really started to lose confidence and became the most easily distracted being on earth.
Bex has been a great help though, I feel im getting back on track.

My aim is to produce a more detailed Asset and Timeline, so i have a good grasp of what time i have!

Sunday 24 January 2010

Schedule.

I’m feeling behind.

What with texturing Test subject Emma..... I am behind. GAhhh... and its only week one.

Best way to look at it is, it is only the first week and things will pick up when it’s all settled in my head that the FMP is finally here after all that planning. :P

Base mesh for the Venus so far.

I have tried to subtly exaggerate her body for more of an idealistic shape. (What with circus girls being renowned hotties)so I’ve drifted from the reference mildly pinching in and pushing out a few cm here and there. Also trying to keep her looking athletic.

Next step is to make her some new high poly hands, her head and then clothing. Bla bla...

Was supposed to have textured her over Christmas holiday, But like all Christmas plans it never went as expected.

The original plan in making Emma was to clarify in my mind, the style we are planning on doing and to see if I could achieve it. I decided it was unwise to rush in to texturing the characters without doing a test first.

And ..........I’m glad I did :P

The skin went well, took a long time but I feel that is due to the arm & upper torso unwrap. Trying to keep it all as one section with 1 seam was a bad idea to say the least. Ahh well.

Also adding to time was trying to get her anatomy right. And finding reference images of small girls is not easy.

The dress I’m defiantly not happy with. Tried out the trick of painting the creases and detail in grey scale first, then overlaying the colour. Result is too bland and most detail was lost in the transition. Then adding a fabric texture over the top just made things worse. So I need a rethink......

Oo oo and the hair I went through several styles and all were to cartoony for my liking. So I think I’ll try the lots of alphas approach next.

Ill have to put her on hold for now though because were in to project time and i need to get my base meshes all sorted. And get some assets out the way.

Note to self: no more using blender brushes. (They make it all grubby looking) for clean blending edges use the Distortion grainy mover brush......... ITS SEXY (in painter that is)

Sunday 17 January 2010

Venus Enviro.

In 2 minds about the Venus environment at the mo.

1st idea.
outside the tent. using the dingi red fabric as a back drop. posing/practising her routine with a hoop or juggling balls.

2nd idea.
A glam shot. of her on the trapeze. only the problem is what do i put in the background. all photos Ive hunted out have no detail in, or i have to make the entire circus ring below her. tricky.
And then there is always the question, can i even rig her that well so she can be in these difficult poses?

Hope the colours are ok. still struggling with my monitor configuration. My monitor and graphics card settings don't seem to like each other much.

Ooo Colour

Rough colour and costumes ideas. ooo i cant deside.
